General Information

Pre-orientation

We suggest that the students should get the whole documentation required to study in Italy at least 30-60 days in advance. All students must have a valid passport. If students do not have a passport, they must obtain a passport application form from county court houses or post offices. Forms can also be obtained directly at federal Passport agencies in major cities. Passports may require up to six weeks for processing.

If you are not a EU-student and your program exceeds the length of 90 days, you have to apply for a student visa. For this purpose, please refer to the nearest Italian Consulate in the United States. For information visit: http://www.italyemb.org

Normally, to get a visa, your will be required at least:

  • Letter of acceptance from the Institute, or student's home institution, stating the dates of the study sojourn in Italy;
  • Letter from health insurance carrier providing proof of health insurance stating coverage, policy number and emergency contact numbers;
  • Letter from parents or legal guardian stating that they accept full financial responsibility during the student's stay in Italy;
  • Application fee.

After entering Italy, students have 8 days to apply for the temporary permission of stay document - Permesso di Soggiorno. Our coordinator will help you with all the necessary procedures. A list of necessary documents to obtain the Permesso di Soggiorno, can be provided on request.
